Friday, November 20, 1959
Nine seniors will be in the starting lineup for the Leesburg Yellow Jackets tonight when they visit
Eustis for homecoming and the season final for the twin elevens.
Included in the Leesburg lineup will be End Joe Heath, Tackles Chip Bridges and Co Capt. Ken
Guards Buddy Bruce, Glen Tyre, and David Roberts, Center Jimmy Copeland, Quarterback Johnny
and Halfback Co. Capt. Lynn Bates. Rounding out the Jacket offensive unit will be James Walker on the
wing with high scoring Randy Brown at the other Halfback post and Sophomore David Herlong in
Roger Clark at Fullback.
The visiting Jackets will only suit up twenty one for the Eustis trip their smallest traveling squad of the
year. Their defensive unit which has come in for most of the honors this year will feature Gerald
James Walker, and Joe Heath at End with Barry Parker and Ken Ferguson at the Tackles, while Mike
Sheets and Hunt Paulling will hold down middle guard posts.
David Herlong, Lynn Bates and Johnny Ward will be the linebackers with Randy Brown and David
Webster the deep backs. Sure to see plenty of action for the Jackets was well tonight will be Halfbacks
Dickie Huff and Bobby Lowery.
The Jackets offense which has blossomed forth in a rash of alignments this year will unveil two new
wholly different formations for the benefit of their faithful follower. Counted on heavily as an offensive
threat will be Sophomore David Herlong who was pressed into duty when their regular work horse
Fullback Roger Clark came up with a knee injury that has sideline him for a couple of weeks and the
game of the year.
Meanwhile the Eustis Panthers will be shorthanded tonight as well. Their offensive threats Halfback
Dean and Fullback Dallas Morgan are not expected to see any action at all. This will hurt their scoring
punch but as traditional rivals they are still regarded as a threat by the Leesburg Coaching staff and
Expected to start in their place are Doug Taylor at Halfback and Gravel Parker at Fullback. Timmy
has been moved from an End position into a Halfback slot. Their offense is directed by Richard Davis
Quarterback. Their forward wall will included Clemer Nix and Orville Mosley on the flanks with Max
Westgate and Lee Mundell the Tackles, and Mike Leech and Bill Denton in at Guard. Bob Jenkins will
over the ball at Center.
