Yellow Jackets Play Panthers Of Eustis Tomorrow

By "DES"
The Daily Commercial
Sunday, November 20, 1958

The Leesburg High Yellow Jackets will return to the football wars after a week off, when they take on
the neighboring Eustis High Panthers at Memorial Field this week. This will be the season 's finals for
the
visiting Panthers and the final home game for the Jackets. The locals will make the long trip to the east
coast next Wednesday night for a pre-Thanksgiving game against Seabreeze High of Daytona.

The Jackets turned out full of fire and spirit Monday and the coaching staff was pleased with the
manner
in which the offensive and defensive units were working. Another surprise was in store for the coaching
staff Tuesday night when several bright spots were uncovered in the Jayvee lost to Winter Park.

Yesterday another full scrimmage was scheduled and today the squad will taper off with dummy drills
and
formation sin order to polish up their offense.

Center Ferrell Young has returned to a halfback spot as Head Coach Billy Brewer and his staff keep
trying to find the scoring key the Jackets need so badly. There has been nothing wrong with the Jacket
offense this year that a couple of TD's per game wouldn't help, and it is with this in mind that the switch
has been made.

You will remember that Young had two years as the Jackets center before he started in the backfield
this
year. He returned to the line early in the season, however, when Ronnie Gibson showed up so well, but
Young will get another chance at halfback against the Panthers of Eustis. The return of Jerry Emerson
to
the Jacket forward wall will give them plenty of beef up front when he combines with the likes of Bob
Curtis
and Keen Ferguson. Wayne Douglas continues to be one of the most aggressive line backers in the
defensive eleven and is sure to see his share of action come Friday night.

Friday night will also be the occasion of a presentation from the local Dads Club of a flag and flag pole.
